how to transport your wedding day veil

Ivory lace veil with an embroidered floral motiff and wide scallops.

Brides always ask me how to transport and take the wrinkles out of their heirloom veils. To answer this questions I have put together a simple guide.

Transporting Your Wedding Veil

1. Use a Breathable Garment Bag
A breathable garment bag is important for protecting your wedding veil from dust and damage.

2. Carefully Fold
For long veils, fold loosely in thirds or quarters, avoiding sharp creases. Place acid-free tissue paper between the folds to prevent wrinkles and maintain the delicate fabric.

3. Lay Flat During Transport
To minimize movement and potential damage, lay the garment bag flat in your car. Avoid placing heavy items on top of the bag.

Removing Wrinkles from Your Wedding Veil

1. Hang Your Veil, ASAP

As soon as you arrive to your bridal suite gently take your veil out and hang her up, spray mist the veil with pure water. Time hanging will help to release some of the wrinkles.

2. Handheld Steamer- Option 1
I like a handheld steamer. It really is the best way to remove wrinkles. Use it on a low setting, keeping a safe distance to avoid water spots. ( I wrap a very light and thin white cotton cloth around the head with a rubberband.) Gently steam your veil until the wrinkles disappear.

3. Bathroom Steam Method- Option 2
Hang your veil in the bathroom and run a hot shower. The steam will naturally release wrinkles without direct heat. Make sure the veil is not in the direct path of water.

4. Low-Heat Ironing- Alert!

Some people recommend using a very low iron with a cotton fabric in between the veil and the iron. I personally would not recommend this tip, specially if you are not a professional seamstress or tailor.

By following these tips, your wedding veil will look beautiful and ready for your big day.
